Health Information Technology Program Now Accepting Applicants, Prerequisite Classes Available this Spring

The application period for the Health Information Technology (HIT) program at ¹û¶³´«Ã½ River State ¹û¶³´«Ã½ (¹û¶³´«Ã½) is now open, and there is still time for students to register for pre-requisite courses during the Spring and Summer semesters. ¹û¶³´«Ã½ if offering a Medical Terminology class (HSC2531) online starting March 4, and Survey of the Human Body class (BSC1084) starts this Summer (dates to be announced).
Offered through the ¹û¶³´«Ã½ Virtual Campus, the HIT program is offered online providing flexibility along with an independent learning environment. Through lectures, virtual labs, and internship opportunities students will master: the medical-legal aspects of patient care; quality improvement and healthcare data analysis; ICD-10 coding; and supervision of health information employees.
The Health Information Technology career field combines medicine and leading computer technology, and the average starting pay in HIT careers is $16 an hour with the potential to make up to $30 an hour.
The HIT program starts this Fall on Monday, August 19. Students entering the program must be 18 years old, and have a high school diploma or GED. Prerequisites courses in Medical Terminology and Survey of the Human Body or Anatomy and Physiology I and II with Labs are also required, and applicants must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
